Resources.
Often, I found I didn’t even know resources existed. Sometimes I bumped into them, and other times my advocacy and asking lots of questions turned up resources. I will share what I learned during my diagnosis phase, and my treatment and post chemo phases…
Mentors & Mentees
“I “bumped” into an oncology social worker at UCSD, when I didn’t even know someone had a job like this. She told me about two organizations that match cancer patients with mentors that have had the same cancer. I can’t thank her enough for sharing this valuable resource with me.
— Ty CreightonImerman Angels, located in the US, matches mentors with mentees. While PSCC is very rare, Imerman has been able to make matches. After receiving a mentor during my chemo phase, I was determined to one day become a PSCC mentor. And I did!
Imerman also helps caregivers find mentors. This is very important since this cancer can consume the time and spirit of our caregivers.
Reach out to Imerman Angels on their website at https://imermanangels.org
— Ty4th Angels is a program with the Cleveland Clinic. They support patients and caregivers with trained volunteer mentors. Their program is free in the US. You can reach out to them by phone at 866.520.3197, or by email at 4thangel@ccf.org Their website is located at https://4thangel.ccf.org
